Workshop: Mastering Environmental Impact Assessment in the Design Process

MAGNET's partnership with Sustainable Minds will help prepare Northern Ohio manufacturers to meet the growing worldwide consumer and regulatory demands for sustainable products. The first step in meeting this demand is to host and facilitate a ground-breaking workshop for teaching and developing valuable ecoDesign skills.

Workshop Agenda:

Come see and hear how companies are developing a competitive advantage with eco designed products and understand how ecoDesign and Development can help your firm sustain itself, while sustaining the planet!

During the two-part workshop you’ll be introduced to this proven process used by manufacturing design professionals and practice using the techniques and tools.

Learn and Practice Innovative ecoDesign Techniques and Tools for:

Creating innovative, greener products

Reducing environmental impact of product and processes

Optimizing raw material consumption and energy use

Reducing design cycle time and costs

Winning new business

The comprehensive and standardized software system being taught allows companies to credibly estimate, evaluate, compare and track the life cycle environmental and human health performance of products in the earliest stages of design. With environmental performance being a rapidly emerging criteria, with this quantified data, companies can now make informed tradeoff decisions about what to make.

The methodology is based on scientific data developed by trusted sources including United States EPA and NIST. It evaluates 10 environmental impact categories, including global warming, to evaluate the total impacts across the lifecycle of a product, as well as its carbon footprint.

Both sessions are required for participants to receive a certificate of completion. At the end of the Session 1 webinar, each participant will be requested to register for a free 30-day trial of the Sustainable Minds Software and Learning Center and given a short homework assignment in preparation for Session 2 workshop.

MAGNET has been successfully serving Northeast Ohio manufacturing companies for more than 25 years and continues to show its dedication to advancing manufacturing by introducing new services like the ecoSMART Sustainable Manufacturing Program launched in 2009.

As part of this program, MAGNET has developed an ecoDesign and Development service and recently partnered with Sustainable Minds, a Cambridge, Massachusetts company specializing in the integration of product design, life cycle assessment and environmental systems design. This partnership brings together a professional team of industry experts in sustainability, LCA, product design, engineering and manufacturing.

Co-sponsored by MAGNET, the Cleveland Engineering Society, PDMA NE Ohio Chapter, WIRE-Net and Sustainable Minds.
